Who are the people, bridging a variety of careers, currently finding themselves in the cross-hairs of job elimination?
Below is some “job cuts” information that some may find surprising or alarming. Personally watching the job market to help job seekers and career changers through transitions, I personally am surprised how quickly the economic situation is affecting jobs (so widespread and severely).
The first week of November, eight companies announced planned job cuts that will affect around 15,000 people. This spans a number of industries, including Leisure, Retail, Pharmaceutical, and Financial, as well as Toy and Auto manufacturers. The following details are estimates as provided by the individual companies.
Circuit City (Fortune 500) – reducing domestic workforce around 7,300.
Hartford Financial (Fortune 500) – 500 cuts.
GlaxoSmithKline – estimating cutting 1,000 sales positions.
Fidelity Investments – 1,300 job eliminations.
Mattel (Fortune 500) – 1,000 cuts.
Borgata Hotel Casino of Atlantic City, N.J. – approximately 375 cuts.
La-Z-Boy – 500 cuts.
Ford Motor – 2,600 additional cuts.
