Here is a comment and question I received from someone who is going through a job search – “I haven’t had to look for a job in a long time, how do I approach it?”.

Having personally put people through job elimination, and having gone through it myself on a couple of occasions, I feel compelled to share my job search views.

In my opinion, there are three main support pillars to this bridge building process:

Pillar 1) Know your job target / career goal…
Pillar 2) Write a strong résumé that aims at your target…
Pillar 3) Have a solid job networking and résumé circulation plan…

If a situation is due to a layoff or job elimination, then add getting beyond the emotional shock factor as the first thing to do!

Focusing on these support pillars provides a framework and direction for where you want your job search to connect, creating each pillar with close attention to detail so they successfully connect together.
